Nephrologists

Nephrologists, also known as kidney doctors, routinely provide care to their patients is a variety of settings including offices, hospitals, and dialysis facilities. Nephrologists commonly treat chronic kidney disease (CKD), polycystic kidney disease (PKD), acute renal failure, kidney stones, and high blood pressure. Nephrologists are a group of medical subspecialists who have completed a two year nephrology fellowship following medical school and an internal medicine internship and residency. Nurse Practitioners

Nurse Practitioners (NP) are registered nurses (RN) who have completed both a Master’s Degree in Nursing and advanced clinical training.
NPs are licensed by the State of Indiana, must pass a national certification exam, and are qualified to act independently in managing a patient’s overall health.
At Nephrology Physicians, NPs work collaboratively with the Nephrologists to diagnose and treat your kidney disease, order and interpret laboratory tests,
prescribe appropriate medications, provide educational and counseling services, and to routinely visit patients during dialysis. To learn more about an NP’s role, please visit www.aanp.org

Access Center

Interventional Radiologists and Nephrologists have completed additional training to provide specialized care to improve the function of dialysis access for patients requiring hemodialysis. They are proficient in performing procedures that are focused on maintaining dialysis fistulas, grafts, and central venous catheters.

IU Transplant Team

The key providers on a Transplant Team include a Transplant Surgeon and Transplant Nephrologists. Kidney Transplant Surgeons have completed a surgical residency and fellowship as well as additional training in organ transplantation. Transplant Nephrologists have completed their residency in Internal Medicine, a fellowship in Nephrology, and specialize in the evaluation of patients requesting a kidney transplant and the long-term follow-up of patients who have received a new kidney.

Renal Care Coordinator

This unique position is a shared resource through the practice’s partnerships with Interwell Health. The RCC is a registered nurse (RN) focused on education and follow up for patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). The RCC strives to work with you to maintain optimal health and provide you with information needed to plan for a variety of available options for transition to renal replacement therapy if needed at a later time.

Staff Support Team

Managing your kidney disease is confusing at times based on the number of complex terms, tests, and restrictions. Our staff wants to help you understand and always feel comfortable asking any question about your health.

Many of your day-to-day interactions are with our Medical Assistants, individuals who have completed specialized training to support physicians in providing medical services. Our Medical Assistants work closely with the Nephrologists, Nurse Practitioners, and RNs to schedule your appointments, prepare you for your office visit, and handle the important communications around scheduling tests, medications, and other critical questions.
